You can revalidate your Single Engine Piston (SEP) Rating by experience if you meet the criteria below. This must be verified and endorsed by an Examiner or duly authorised Instructor. Please contact us if you meet the requirements below and you would like your SEP Rating endorsed by an Examiner. 

(ii) within the 12 months preceding the expiry date of the rating, complete 12 hours of flight time in the relevant class, including:

— 6 hours as PIC,

— 12 take-offs and 12 landings, and

— refresher training of at least 1 hour of total flight time with a flight instructor (FI) or a class rating instructor (CRI). Applicants shall be exempted from this refresher training if they have passed a class or type rating proficiency check, skill test or assessment of competence in any other class or type of aeroplane.

If you don’t meet the experience requirements listed above, you can complete a Licence Proficiency Check (LPC):

(i) within the 3 months preceding the expiry date of the rating, pass a proficiency check in the relevant class in accordance with Appendix 9 to this Part with an examiner;

Is you SEP(LAND) Rating Expired. Under FCL.740(b) an SEP(LAND) can be renewed outside of an ATO/DTO if the rating has not expired by more than two years. If this is the case we can provide the training and the check. If your rating has expired by more than 2 years we can work with one of our partner ATO/DTOs to complete the required assessment of training. Please contact us for more information.

Applicants for an examiner certificate shall demonstrate their competence to an inspector from the competent authority or a senior examiner specifically authorised to do so by the competent authority responsible for the examiner’s certificate through the conduct of a skill test, proficiency check or assessment of competence in the examiner role for which privileges are sought, including briefing, conduct of the skill test, proficiency check or assessment of competence, and assessment of the person to whom the test, check or assessment is given, debriefing and recording documentation. 

We can provide a Senior Examiner for the conduct of a Flight Examiner AOC for SEP Aircraft. Please note that all Examiner AOCs require prior approval from the IAA and a minimum of 15 days notice. Please contact us at the earliest opportunity to arrange. 

Boeing 737 Type Ratings are valid for 12 months. In order to revalidate a Type Rating, the candidate shall:

  1. (1)  pass a proficiency check in accordance with Appendix 9 to Part-FCL in the relevant class or type of aeroplane or an FSTD representing that class or type, within the 3 months immediately preceding the expiry date of the rating; and
  2. (2)  complete during the period of validity of the rating, at least:
    1. (i)  10 route sectors as pilot of the relevant class or type of aeroplane; or
    2. (ii)  1 route sector as pilot of the relevant class or type of aeroplane or FFS, flown with an examiner. This route sector may be flown during the proficiency check. 

Please note that once a Type Rating expires, it must be renewed at an ATO.

FCL.940.TRI outlines the revalidation requirements for a TRI certificate. 

To revalidate a TRI(A) certificate, applicants shall, within the 12 months immediately preceding the expiry date of the certificate fulfil at least two out of the three following requirements:

  1. conduct one of the following parts of a complete type rating or recurrent training course: simulator session of at least 3 hours or one air exercise of at least 1 hour comprising a minimum of two take-offs and landings;

  2. complete instructor refresher training as a TRI(A) at an ATO;

  3. pass the assessment of competence in accordance with point FCL.935. Applicants who have complied with point FCL.910.TRI(b)(3) shall be deemed to comply with this requirement.

For at least each alternate revalidation of a TRI certificate, holders shall pass the assessment of competence in accordance with point FCL.935.

If TRIs hold a certificate for more than one type of aircraft within the same category, the assessment of competence taken on one of those types of aircraft shall revalidate the TRI certificate for the other types held within the same category of aircraft, unless it is otherwise determined in the OSD.

SFI Certificates are treated slightly differently. Please get in touch with your specific requirements and we can advise you.
